About this course

["The Master's degree programme in Landscape Architecture is based at the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Munich. Following the model of two-stage degree programmes, it builds on the Bachelor's degree programme in Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning at the Weihenstephan Science Centre of the TUM and on equivalent degree programmes at other universities. Graduates of equivalent degree programmes with fewer than 240 credits are required to make up missing credits upon admission, which extends the duration of study. The Master's degree programme in Landscape Architecture lasts three semesters (90 ECTS). It is designed as a project study programme, with design-related project work being the central building block in dealing with complex and mostly interdisciplinary problems. The project work in particular involves an intensive examination of current landscape architectural and social issues with reference to current research, thus anticipating social challenges. The first two semesters of study consist of project work and supplementary elective modules. The third semester is used to complete the Master's thesis, which must be completed within a period of six months. The degree programme is supported by four core professorships. The Chair of Landscape Architecture and Public Space deals with the moderation and design of urban and landscape development processes, focusing on the careful conception of urban spaces that meet the current requirements of coexistence. The Chair of Landscape Architecture and Industrial Landscape focuses on the analytical, creative and technical examination of the historical, current and future relationship of society to nature in the city, garden and landscape, particularly in industrialised and post-industrial landscapes. The Department of Landscape Architecture of Regional Open Spaces works on the development of larger spatial contexts, cities and cultural landscapes and thus at the interface of open space theory, open space planning and landscape development. The newly appointed tenure-track professorship, Green Technologies in Landscape Architecture, deals with innovative biological-technical solutions in order to develop new open space architectural typologies and design approaches and to investigate their spatial-aesthetic effect and technical performance. The Master's programme is an essential level for cooperation between the core professorships in teaching and research and at the same time builds up the next generation of researchers."]
